Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery, and Integrative Biology and Physiology, and director of the NeuroLife laboratory at UCLA. He has pioneered research about the molecular mechanisms by which diet and exercise influence brain homeostasis and disease.  He has made important contribution to understand how the interaction between the brain and gut influences pathogenesis of brain disorders including traumatic brain injury.  His is currently devoting efforts to understand the molecular basis of individualized medicine using genomics approaches.  His studies are funded by the National Institute of Heath. He has more than 150 articles published in elite scientific journals, and has been plenary speaker in important events around the world, and his research receives intense international media attention.
